March madness

This missive was originally posted on 3/15/2005

The March maddness isn't Basketball--it's the two Ms: Medicaid and Malpractice.

Malpractice costs represent--at most-6% of all health care costs. At CodeBlueNow!we are going to publish a new malpractice fact sheet to shed lot on the insanity of the current debate.

It is not just about doctors and lawyers--it is about insurance investments and insurance cycles. One company in Washington state actually lowered its malpractice premiums this year to their lowest rates in nearly 20 years.

We are wasting millions of dollars on lobbying and legislation that could be fixed in other ways.

CodeBlueNow! thinks there is another way to solve the problem--define the problem we are trying to solve.

And Medicaid madness--are we willing to accept as a society that we will strip health insurance from low income people to balance the state budget?  Mississippi shifted 13,000 frail elderly people in nursing homes from Medicaid to Medicare last year.  Medicare does not cover prescription drugs; nor nursing home care.

As one person said-these people are going to be graveyard dead.

CodeBlueNow! thinks there is a better way and we are building it.

The way America manages its health care now is pure idiocy.

Tennessee is cutting 323,000 people off their state health care rolls.  So where will they get care? In financially fragile Tennessee hospitals or they will die.

Why don't we just use some firing squads instead? It's the same death sentence.

Watch our blog as we tell stories of March madness.

Things don't have to be this way. We can build a new system that works for the American public.

We know, we have their ideas, a process and a plan.

More later,  Kathleen
